Delgado Gaitan is
a widely praised author of 10 nonfiction books. She has influenced the
field of Anthropology of Education, which earned her multiple honors,
including The George and Louise Spindler Award for Distinguished and
Inspirational Contributions. The Council of Anthropology and Education
named the Presidential Fellowship in her name "The Concha Delgado Gaitan Presidential Fellowship.”
She has been a senior professor at the University of California, Davis and is a national and international speaker. Her scholarship in Anthropology and Education is recognized in her many publications about empowering marginalized communities of color.

Concha's early background shaped
her career. She immigrated with her family to California from
Chihuahua, Mexico when she was seven years old. From them, she learned
the love of family, the value of education, and rigorous work.
By living the struggles in her family and the community, she
understood the meaning of social justice. Community activism led to
her positions as a classroom teacher, school principal, and later an
ethnographic researcher. She earned her Ph.D. at Stanford
University, focusing on sociopolitical cultural change in
underrepresented communities.
Concha lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area with husband, Dudley Thompson, and their four cats.
